Freezer Cooking Dinner Recipes

Even if you’re a diligent meal planner, we all have those nights when we just don’t want to cook. Instead of ordering pizza, keep some of your family’s favorite freezer meals on hand at all times so you can have a low-effort dinner at the ready whenever you need it.

If you have the freezer space, casseroles usually freeze beautifully, but if you don’t have a dedicated freezer, store sloppy Joe filling or BBQ chicken in gallon freezer bags.

Freezer Cooking Soup Recipes

Almost every soup is a good candidate for freezing! And even better, they won’t take up much real estate in the freezer either, especially if you freeze them flat in gallon-size bags and stack them on the shelf. Serve them with a grilled cheese, sandwich, or salad for an easy-peasy weeknight dinner.

Make-and-Freeze Breakfast Recipes

Most kids are happy to wolf down their favorite cereal, but for a change of pace, keep some pancakes, breakfast burritos, and strawberry scones on hand for quick weekday breakfasts. I also like to keep a breakfast casserole or two in the freezer for weekends, when we have time to gather for a big breakfast!

Make-and-Freeze Dessert Recipes

Freezer cooking recipes for dessert?! Why not! You never know when you might have an unexpected guest coming over for dinner or something to celebrate. Cookies are one of my favorite sweets to freeze—you can bake them and then freeze them, or you can freeze the dough and bake it when you’re in need of a treat. Brownies, bars, and even cakes will freeze well too!

After School Snack Freezer Cooking Recipes

Do your kids come home from school acting like they haven’t eaten all day? Stocking up on store-bought pizza rolls and frozen snacks can get expensive, so I like making my own after school snacks instead.

FAQs

What are the best ways to freeze food to keep it fresh?

Having an airtight container is your best option when it comes to freezing food. You have to keep the air out so that you keep the freshness in.

When I’m freezing baked goods, I’ll often wrap them in saran wrap or aluminum foil and THEN add the wrapped treat to a freezer-safe bag.

Can I store freshly baked goods in the freezer?

You can, but you need to be sure that you let any food that you’re going to freeze cool down all the way first. If you freeze food when it’s hot, it will release steam into the bag or container and make the food soggy.

How do you unthaw frozen foods?

It all just depends on the food. For breakfast foods and baked goods, I’ll just move them to the fridge and let them thaw that way.

There are some foods that can also be cooked from frozen that actually don’t even have to be thawed. Many casseroles are that way – and it’s great!

Storing unbaked foods means that you can then just follow along with the rest of the recipe and bake it until it’s cooked all the way through.
