How-To Make Oreo Dessert:
Oreo Dessert Ingredients:
- 1 pkg Oreos
- ½ stick butter
- One 8 ounce pkg cream cheese
– softened
- 1 6.9oz pkg INSTANT vanilla instant pudding note: do not make the pudding AND use the milk below. Only add the 3 cups in these directions.
- One 8 ounce container of Cool Whip
- 3 cups milk TOTAL – SEE note below
- 1 cup of sugar
NOTE: Some people have had trouble with this setting up – I have not. I’ve used skim, 2% and whole milk. I believe that WHOLE MILK is best.
FULL PRINTABLE RECIPE BELOW
Step 1. Crush Oreos in a 9×13 pan – saving a few for topping later. Pour melted butter over crushed Oreos.
Step 2.In a large bowl, mix together with a mixer – instant pudding & milk until thickened. Then add the cream cheese and sugar – mix well.
Step 3.Fold Cool Whip into pudding mixture and spread over Oreos.
Step 4. Sprinkle remaining crushed Oreos on top. Chill for 2-3 hours before serving.
Tips for Success
- I made this batch with Double Stuffed Oreos, but you could really use any flavor of Oreo you’d like, along with changing up the pudding used, as well! Next time, I’m going with Mint Oreos
!
- Do NOT follow the directions on the box of pudding and add in the milk from the box. Only add in the milk from the recipe below.
- Be sure to chill for several hours before eating. While it’s delicious as soon as it’s made, it’s even better when it has time to sit.

Delicious! I agree with the other comments that the cup of sugar is completely unnecessary. It tastes perfectly sweet without it.
I made it once with 1/4 c butter and once with the 1/2 c. More butter equals a more cohesive crust. It just stays together better. I didn’t notice a taste difference. Also regular Oreos were better than mint.

We have different size packaging in Canada, especially for oreos. How many oreos are in your package?
Stephanie
Good dessert but I think I know why so many have had problems with it setting up. The recipe calls for one 6.9 oz pkg instant pudding. Well the standard package size of instant pudding is 3.4 oz. This is the only pkg size my local store sells, so if you don’t realize that this recipe is calling for the non-standard “family size” pkg, you will only be adding about half the pudding needed. Fortunately I had another pkg of pudding on hand, but I bet many are missing that detail.

I’ve always loved this dessert ever since was a kid they had a box kind that came with everything but don’t think no longer exist so I use your recipe now. Thanks it’s delicious

I think no need for the added sugar since pudding is sweet, the whipped topping is also & most sweet of all are those cookies with that ultra sweet frosting! I even think another, less sweet cookie might be very good, such as just a plain chocolate cookie.
Although I love butter & use it whenever possible, the use of butter in such a recipe seems odd & not necessary. I would leave the Oreos without it so they remain a bit crispier
for a nice contrast to all that creaminess! Last but not least, I would definitely use real whipped cream. It will cause the dessert to be firmer & of course much more yummy & gives the ability to control the sweetness. That Cool Whip is just not desirable, full of chemicals & oil, no cream in sight! Sorry if it sounds like I’m picking apart the recipe but I just always try to make all recipes, even decadant desserts, as healthy as possible.

I was wondering/thinking the same! Shouldn’t change anything, right?

Loved this! Easy to assemble and delicious! I left out the sugar as well and no one missed it! The large jello pudding box which is now 4.9 oz is what I used.

I prepared this recipe exactly as mentioned above and while we enjoyed it, found it to be much too sweet for our taste. I would cut the sugar down significantly, especially if using double stuffed Oreos.
Next time with that modification I believe it will be perfect for our family. Thanks for sharing 🙂

Can you make this dish without using a mixer?

We loved this recipe. The pudding base is good for a lot of desserts like banana pudding or chocolate eclairs cake. However, I did omit the cup of sugar (it was already so sweet I didn’t understand why you needed more) and the butter. I didn’t understand why you needed that either. Everyone loved it and my almost 10 year old asked for it for his birthday cake! Thank you!

Oh! We also used the new Gluten Free Oreos! They were great! You do have to use 1.5 packages of the gf ones because there are fewer in the package than the original but they were awesome!
