If you’ve never heard of them, you may think that Slutty Brownies have kind of a strange name for a dessert recipe, but all that matters is that they’re out-of-this-world good! A triple-threat dessert, these aren’t your average brownies. Instead of just a chocolate base, they’re made with three layers including chocolate chip cookie dough, Oreo, and brownies. Every bite is a little slice of chocolate heaven.

Slutty Brownies Recipe

Served similarly to cookie bars, these Slutty Brownies are everything you could ever want in a dessert and then some! Plus, they’re super simple to make and are easy to customize. For instance, if you want to add more taste and texture, you can include chopped nuts or pieces of candy. If you’re looking for ideas, I provide mix-in options and serving suggestions below.

Personally, I think these brownies are best served slightly warm with an ice-cold glass of milk, but they’re just as tasty at room temperature, too. I tend to slice my brownies pretty small, because they really are quite rich, and you can always go back for seconds! Plus, it’s an easy way to stretch them for a hungry crowd.

Whether you’re preparing for the holidays, contributing to a bake sale, bringing a dessert to a neighborhood cookout, or just want to treat yourself to something decadent and sweet, you can’t go wrong with this Slutty Brownies recipe!

Ingredients for Slutty Brownies

See recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.

  • Butter – I use unsalted butter in this recipe.
  • Brown sugar – You can use light or dark brown sugar.
  • Egg – An egg holds the batter together.
  • Vanilla extract – Use pure vanilla extract for the best flavor!
  • Flour – All-purpose flour forms the base of the brownie batter.
  • Salt – A little salt balances the sweetness of the batter.
  • Baking powder and baking soda – To help the cookie dough rise.
  • Chocolate chips – I like semi-sweet chocolate chips for these brownies so that they’re not overly sweet, but dark chocolate also works!
  • Oreo cookies – For a sweet cookie crunch.

Brownie Layer

  • Butter
  • Brown sugar – Use light brown sugar.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cocoa powder – Unsweetened cocoa powder is best in this recipe.
  • Flour
  • Salt
  • Baking powder
  • Eggs
  • Chocolate chips
  • Chopped walnuts – The walnuts are optional but recommended!

Variations

Here are a few variation suggestions you can try when you make these Slutty Brownies:

  • Add candy. If you love chocolate, add more! You can throw in some mini chocolate chips or even chopped peanut butter cups.
  • Stir in some nuts. I definitely love to add chopped walnuts, almonds, or a combination of both to these brownies for a bit of extra crunch.
  • Top with mini marshmallows. For an extra layer of pillowy sweetness!
  • Use a box of brownie mix. If you want, you can use a boxed brownie mix for the brownie layer.

How to Make Slutty Brownies

  1. Make the cookie dough: Start by making the cookie dough layer. To do so, beat the butter and light brown sugar together until light and fluffy. Be sure to scrape down the sides of the bowl to make sure all the butter is well blended.
  2. Mix in the egg and vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla to the bowl, and mix until smooth.
  3. Add the dry ingredients: Add the flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda, and mix into a smooth, thick dough.
  4. Stir in the chocolate chips: Stir the chocolate chips into the batter by hand.
  5.  Prepare a baking pan: Spray a 9×9 baking dish with baking oil spray, or brush it with melted butter.
  6. Press the cookie dough evenly into the pan: Add the cookie dough to the greased pan, and gently press it into the bottom of the pan, making it flat and even.
  7. Add broken Oreos to the top of the dough layer: Make a layer of Oreos on top of the cookie dough. Try to cover the cookie dough completely, breaking the cookies as needed to make sure they fit.
  8. Chill the dough while you prepare the brownie layer: Place the pan in the fridge while you make the brownie layer.

Brownie Layer

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350℉
  2. Sift together the cocoa powder, flour, salt, and baking powder: Sift the cocoa powder, flour, salt and baking powder together into a medium-sized bowl. Set aside.
  3. Beat together the eggs, melted butter, sugar, and vanilla: In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, melted butter, sugar, and vanilla together. Then, beat for about 5 minutes so the mixture is thick. This will make the brownies have a nice, thin, crispy top!
  4. Combine: Stir in the dry ingredients just until smooth.
  5. Top the cookie dough with the brownie batter: Pour the brownie batter into the pan, over the top of the Oreo layer, and shake the pan a little so it settles into a flat layer.
  6. Bake: Bake the bars for 40 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the center will come out mostly clean- a little bit sticky is okay, but if the toothpick is completely covered in batter, bake for a few more minutes.
  7. Cool: Let the bars cool for about 2 hours. They will slice easier when they are not hot.

Quick Tip

Though it’s hard, try to let the brownies cool for at least 2 hours so that they fully set and the layers don’t fall apart when you cut into them.

How to Store Slutty Brownies

Store leftover slutty brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.

Serving Suggestions

Serve slutty brownies topped with whipped cream and chocolate sauce, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, drizzled with homemade caramel sauce, or simply with a cold glass of milk!

FAQs

What are Katharine Hepburn brownies?

Katharine Hepburn brownies are classic brownies that are dark and chewy, not cake-like.

Can you make brownies with olive oil?

You absolutely can and should use olive oil in brownies! Choose a more neutral-tasting olive oil like light olive oil so that it complements rather than overpowers the taste of the chocolate. Oil will keep the brownies moist as well.

Why do you slam brownies?

When you bang a pan of brownie batter on the counter before placing it in the oven, it will push out any air, which compresses the brownies. The center will sink a bit and the interior will become soft and fudgy while the exterior is crisp.
