Marry Me Chicken Recipe

There are many stories as to where the name of this scrumptious dish came from. However, from what I can tell, it came from someone making and sharing this dish, and the person eating it saying, “This chicken is so good, I could marry it!”

It’s also been said that the chicken is so good whoever is eating it will propose on the spot. No matter how it got its name, it remains one of my favorite chicken recipes to date!

Variations

While I think this recipe is perfect as is, here are some fun options to switch it up:

  • Add more seasonings – Chicken is a really versatile protein, so seasoning it is simple. Feel free to experiment with different herbs and spices to find what combinations you like best
  • Use fresh tomatoes – Fresh tomatoes paired with the rest of the ingredients scream summer!

How To Make Marry Me Chicken

  1. Coat the chicken: Whisk the salt, pepper, and flour in a shallow bowl. Dredge the chicken cutlets through the flour mix, completely coating them in a thin layer. Shake off any excess flour.
  2. Heat the oil: Add the olive oil and butter to a large skillet, and heat over medium-high heat.
  3. Cook the chicken: Once the butter has melted, add the floured chicken breasts to the pan in a single layer (cook in batches if needed). Brown the chicken for five minutes. Then, flip, and brown for another four minutes. Remove the browned chicken from the pan, and return the skillet to the stovetop.
  4. Brown the garlic: Add the garlic to the pan, and cook for one minute to brown.
  5. Deglaze the pan: Add the chicken stock to the pan. Use a wooden spoon to scrape the browned bits from the bottom, mixing them into the chicken stock.
  6. Simmer: Reduce the heat to medium-low. Then, stir in the heavy cream and parmesan cheese. Bring the mix to a simmer.
  7. Season: Stir in the Italian seasoning and chili flakes. Simmer for two to three more minutes.
  8. Add the tomatoes: Stir the sundried tomatoes into the sauce. Then, add the chicken back to the pan. Simmer for two more minutes.
  9. Serve: Divide the chicken between plates, and sprinkle each with some of the fresh basil. Enjoy hot!

Quick Tip

Use meat thermometer to ensure the chicken reaches an internal temperature fo 165 degrees, meaning it’s fully cooked and safe to eat.

How to Store Marry Me Chicken

Let the leftover chicken cool to room temperature. Then, store it in an airtight container. Leftovers will stay fresh in the fridge for up to two days.

Reheat your Marry Me Chicken in the microwave or low and slow in the oven. Be sure that you reheat the chicken all the way through before eating.

I don’t recommend freezing leftovers as the cream sauce will not thaw well.
