This is such an easy cake recipe because I have a secret… I make it with a box cake mix. Shhhhh….don’t tell anyone. It can be our secret. They will NEVER know!

I use my Box Cake Mix Secrets to make it taste super good. You’ll have to head over and see that post after you’re done reading here – it’s creeping up to be #1 here on All Things Mamma.

7UP Bundt Cake whole on a table with white plates and soda cans

People LOVE to bake and LOVE secrets to make their cake taste homemade while using a box cake mix. I promise that these secret tips will transform your normal box mix into something amazing!!!

I’m not sure if you’ve had a 7up Cake before, but the flavor is so good!! The 7up just adds a little zest to the flavor AND some sweetness – but not too much. It’s perfect!

I’ve thought about adding Cherry 7up in the cake, but haven’t tried it yet. I have a feeling it would take this cake to a whole new level!

See the recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.

The cake

  • Yellow Cake Mix – Duncan Hines and Betty Crocker are great choices for a quality cake mix that tastes homemade!
  • Lemon Instant Pudding Mix – Instant Pudding
  • Eggs
  • Wesson Canola Oil – I like using Wesson because it’s a classic, light oil that provides moisture and has a good taste in a cake
  • 7UP Soda

The glaze

  • powdered sugar
  • milk
  • lemon juice

2. Make The Cake: Add cake mix and 1 large box of Jell-O lemon pudding mix into a large bowl. Add eggs, and beat well. Add Wesson oil, 7 Up, and stir to combine.

3. Add To Prepared Pan: Pour in a greased bundt pan and bake at 325 degrees for 40-45 minutes.

4. Cool And Glaze: Allow to cool and top with glaze.

White Wine Spritzer pouring into a cup

Speaking of a whole new level, since we’re talking about hanging out in the backyard with adults, a little 7up cocktail is perfect with this cake!

Cherry 7up, cherry juice and a little white wine is the perfect White Wine Spriter summertime drink! Of course, you can leave the wine out and still have a light and refreshing drink.

Either way, it’s yummy!

  1. JUDY CROUSE says:

can you use another flavor other than lemon?????

  2. Easy and delicious recipe.

  3. 5 stars
I have made this several times, family loves it. I did reduce the oil just a bit and still works fine.

    1. Michelle - ATM Team says:

So happy to hear the fam enjoyed it!

  4. Instead of yellow cake mix and lemon pudding can I use Betty crackers super moist lemon cake mix that has lemon pudding in the mix?

  5. 5 stars
Love it!! Very yummy moist must try! I used lime juice instead of lemon juice.

  6. 5 stars
This is a hit at my house. Follow the recipe and the cake turns out great. When making the icing I only add enough milk to make it the consistency I want. It is thin if you add that much liquid. So easy and so tasty.

  7. Kimberly S says:

Do you have to use the pudding mix?

    1. Kasey Schwartz says:

You don’t have to but the pudding makes a denser cake that is moister.

  8. P J Keenum says:

The recipe ingredients say a 3.4 oz. lemon pudding mix, which is a small box. The instructions say add 1 large box of lemon pudding mix. Which is it?

    1. I had the same question. I just used the small, 3.4 oz box and it came out great.
I also tried it with vanilla pudding and used Fresca (grapefruit soda) and fresh grapefruit juice and zest. It was excellent!
Today I’m going to try Ginger Ale with a little grated ginger and a pinch of cardamom, using vanilla pudding mix.
What a fun recipe to play around with.

  9. someone gave me a similar recipe which I have made and it is good; only it replaces the 7 up with water……. I wonder what difference the 7 up makes is this cake??

  10. Thanks I love this recipe!!!

  11. Grace Perez says:

This cake looks amazing and I want to make it. Is the 4 eggs too much though? I’ve never baked a box cake that takes four eggs.

    1. Kasey Schwartz says:

      It always turns out amazing!

    2. 5 stars
No the 4 eggs not to much👌🏽Just follow recipe as say And it will be super delicious 🤗I made one yesterday and it almost gone it very GOOD and moist

  12. JuneLouise says:

Oh wow, just made this and so delish….my family agrees, it’s so light and fresh and super simple to make and for sure will be making more times.

  13. Mary Ellen Flaherty says:

I only have ginger ale will that work Thank

    1. I used Baja Flash Mt Dew and it worked as well even diet pop should work with boxed cake mix . Dark pop for chocolate cakes and light colored pop for white yellow strawberry cakes. WW used diet in their recipes to save calories . Pop is a great cake mix hack

  14. Betty J Conard says:

Can I use butter in place of oil?

    1. I would also like to know recommendations regarding replacing oil with butter. I see other 7up cake recipes that swear by butter but they don’t use pudding like this one…

  15. Betty J Conard says:

Can I use sprite or mountain dew?

    1. Shirley BAILEY says:

Yes, I have used MD and sprt

      1. My icing was thin 😞
