- Paprika โ Adds a little color and flavor to the top of this dish.
- Salt + Pepper – Salt and pepper give potatoes life!
How to Make Scalloped Potatoes
1. Preheat the oven
2. Melt the butter
3. Add milk
4. Cook sauce
Add in salt and pepper and stir well.
5. Reduce heat
6. Add to casserole dish
7. Pour cheese sauce
8. Add potatoes
9. Add cheese and toppings
10. Bake in the oven
How To Make Scalloped Potatoes Ahead of Time
If you’re making these as a side dish to a big meal, make things easier on yourself and made them ahead of time
Covered and bake for 45 minutes. Remove from the oven and cool completely – uncovered.
Cover well and refrigerate for up to 2 days.
On the day of serving, remove from the fridge at least 30 minutes before baking. Bake uncovered for about 35 minutes or until heated through.

Ingredients
- 4 cups thinly sliced Yukon Gold potatoes
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk I like evaporated milk, also
- 1 1/2 cups grated sharp cheddar cheese divided
- paprika
- 1 tsp salt + pepper
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- In a small sauce pan, melt butter. Once melted add melted butter with a fork โ whisking together.
- Next, whisk in milk.
- Cook sauce on low until smooth and boiling, whisking until thickened.
- Add in salt and pepper and stir well.
- Reduce heat to low and stir in 1 cup of the cheddar cheese.
- Place a half of the sliced potatoes in a lightly greased 1.5 quart casserole dish (8ร8 or 9ร9 will work)
- Pour half of the cheese sauce over potatoes.
- Add a second layer of potatoes and the rest of the cheese sauce to the top of that layer
- Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese on top.
- Sprinkle the top with paprika.
- Bake at 350 degrees, uncovered for 1 hour.
