No-Bake Oreo Dessert
If your family is anything like my family…they LOVE Oreos. That’s why when I tried this scrumptious No Bake Oreo Dessert Recipe that our Pastor’s wife made at church, I KNEW I had to have the recipe to share with you all!
It’s rich and full of flavor, yet light and creamy. A favorite with everyone who’s tried it, you can’t miss on this Oreo Dessert for your next potluck or family dinner!
Ingredients
See the recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.
- Oreos
- Butter
- Cream cheese โ softened.
- Instant vanilla instant pudding – do not make the pudding AND use the milk below. Only add the 3 cups in these directions.
- Cool Whip
- Milk – Some people have had trouble with this setting up – I have not. I’ve used skim, 2% and whole milk. I believe that WHOLE MILK is best.ย
- Sugar
How-To Make Oreo Dessert:
1. Crush Oreos: In a 9×13 pan crush the Oreos, saving a few for topping later. Pour melted butter over crushed Oreos.
2. Mix: In a large bowl, mix together with a mixer – instant pudding & milk until thickened. Then add the cream cheese and sugar – mix well.
3. Add Cool Whip: Fold Cool Whip into the pudding mixture and spread over Oreos.
4. Add Topping And Chill: Sprinkle remaining crushed Oreos on top. Chill for 2-3 hours before serving.
Tips for Success
- I made this batch with Double Stuffed Oreos, but you could really use any flavor of Oreo you’d like, along with changing up the pudding used, as well! Next time, I’m going with Mint Oreos!
- Do NOT follow the directions on the box of pudding and add in the milk from the box. Only add in the milk from the recipe below.
- Be sure to chill for several hours before eating. While it’s delicious as soon as it’s made, it’s even better when it has time to sit.

So, I just made this and had to leave a comment. I have no idea what the issue is with setting so many people are talking about. I reduced the milk to 2.5 cups at first, to be safe with the comments….I ended up adding the additional half cup (used total of 3, like the recipe) and it was great. Tasted some filling that was left on the spatula and can already tell that it’s going to be phenomenal. I used 2% milk and that was fine, too. ๐
GREAT!!! So happy to hear that!
I followed the directions exactly and it came out perfectly. No problem with it setting up. And Iโm not even a great cook! Definitely not the recipeโs fault if it didnโt work for you.
GREAT!! Thanks for sharing!!
Had no problem at all with the recipe. I made it for a party and EVERYONE lOVED it!
Would you recommend using buttermilk instead of whole milk in the no bake oreo dessert ?
No, I think whole milk is best.
Perfect all three times I’ve made it. Set within 3 hours, we couldn’t wait longer to taste it! I can only say when following the directions, perfection!
That’s great to hear!!
I made this and then put it in the refrigerator to chill and firm up, and it didn’t really get any firmer. So I turned the temperature down in the refrigerator, and that helped it get firmer. Just a suggestion for those that are having trouble with the pudding mixture being too runny. It was delicious. Reminds of “dirt dessert” that I had as a kid.
The recipe call for pouring melted butter over the bottom oreos but the video doesn’t show this. Do you omit the butter?
I believe I did. It’s such a versatile recipe, you can add it or not.
I made this recipe exactly as written using whole milk and 1 packet of pudding and it set up just right and was delicious! I did make sure to beat the pudding mixture until it started to thicken and maybe that is the key
OKAY! I made this recipe and IT DID STAND but here are a couple things I changed in the process and a couple things I wish I had changed.
Tip #1: Chop with oreos in a food processor. Unless you do want those big chunks of oreos. I personally wanted more of a cheesecake kind of crust.
Tip #2: Split the oreos into a 3/4 to 1/4. In the 3/4 bowl, pour 3/4 a stick of melted butter and mix, then press together on the bottom of the pan to form the ‘crust.’
Tip #3: Beat the cream cheese FIRST. That was it will become fluffy and not all clumped.
Tip #4: Don’t add sugar. It was EXTREMELY sweet and sugar just overdoes it.
Tip #5: In a separate bowl, make the pudding and only add 2 cups of milk. I did with 2% milk.
Tip #6: Wait about 2 minutes for the ready pudding to stand before adding it to the cream cheese. That way it’s almost set.
Tip #5: Split the recipe in half, unless you actually have about 20 people to feed. This recipe makes A LOT.
YAY! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hey! I just wanted to say I made this recipe EXACTLY as your directions mentioned, and it came out PERFECTLY! Was a HUGE hit!
Ideas for those who are having issues..
*Make sure to use ONLY 3 cups of milk TOTAL (do NOT make the pudding as pudding directions say, you omit that altogether).
*Make sure the pudding is INSTANT (if it doesn’t say instant on it, it is not instant and IS NOT THE SAME!)
*Make sure the cream cheese is softened, but not too softened (and don’t use fat free! You need the fat to help it stay thick).
*FOLD in the Whip Cream (mixing it harshly will defeat the Whip Creams purpose).
*Refrigerate!
Whole milk has less water content, that’s why it is useful to use whole milk. If you use lowfat (or 1%) milk plus low-fat cream cheese that may be what is making your dessert a soup.
I made it to a T as the recipe says (only needed 1 pudding packet) and it worked out great ๐
Hopefully others can have better luck!
GREAT!!! So glad it turned out!
I made this twice with the Oreos and it turned out great. I used two packs of pudding mix, based on other reviews.
I decided to try this a third time, but instead of vanilla pudding and Oreos I used lemon pudding and graham crackers. Its sitting in the fridge now, so I haven’t tasted it, but the couple locks I got off the spatula were delicious. I want to also try this with chocolate pudding and pistachio pudding.
Figured out why mine wouldnโt set up. Iโm saying it was soap after 8 hours in the fridge! I donโt believe the milk matters! Itโs instant pudding..not cook & serve!!! I finally figured it out after trying this twice & it being soap BOTH times! Get instant pudding & fix your problems! Iโll be trying this again tomorrow lol
Soup* dang autocorrect
This recipe turned out great! I made sure to use whole milk and whisk the milk and pudding together for 2 minutes ,the pudding begin to set. Then after that I added the cream cheese and sugar, ending with the whip cream. Delicious, even my autistic son loved it! It won’t let me rate it 5 stars, but I give it 5 stars!!!!
My kids and I made this recipe and we used the big pack of pudding and the 3 cups of milk. It turned out great! I made sure to use whole milk and whisk the pudding and milk for 2 min (pudding began to set) then I added the cream cheese and sugar. Kasey, great recipe!
Okay, I made this as well and used Oreo pudding and a vanilla. I followed the instructions and just poured it all in to mix and it didnโt set up. I think how you did it is the correct way. I think the pudding needs to be made first and then add in the sugar and cream cheese. Otherwise itโs clumpy – I had to put it all in the blender to get the clumps out. It does have good flavor but I donโt think the instructions are written the best.
Note: please add a step at the beginning to thaw the cool whip.
Brand new cooks who may not know this will ruin this dessert by trying desperately to “fold” in frozen cool whip. ๐
If it isn’t setting, could I put it in the freezer to help it set? I want to bring it in to work tomorrow, but I’m worried it won’t set overnight in the fridge since it has been in there for around 5 hours already. Thanks!
