Ingredients Needed:

  • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
  • Taco Seasoning – I like homemade taco seasoning best
  • Salsa – make sure to use your favorite – mine is HERE
  • Chicken Broth

What to Serve With Chicken Tacos:

I like to use soft tortilla shells for these tacos, but you can also use corn or flour tortillas, taco shells, taco bowls, on nachos, add to a bun or on top of a taco salad instead of beef. Mix it up and try it several different ways!

I think that the toppings are one of the best parts of any taco recipe. Here are a few of my family’s favorites that I always put out on the counter for everyone to stack on their own tacos!

  • tomatoes
  • shredded romaine lettuce
  • sour cream
  • shredded cheese – shred your own for the best flavor and texture
  • black olives
  • avocado/guacamole
  • little chopped cilantro
  • salsa/taco sauce

You can also serve it with a side dish of rice or refried beans. I also like to have all the hot sauces on the table as well so that everyone can grab and use them as they please.

Some people like their tacos to be spicier while others prefer them to be mild.

Tips & Variations

This is one crock-pot recipe that is ready in a jiffy and perfect for a weeknight meal! If you use fresh, boneless chicken breasts, you only need about 3-4 hours for this recipe to cook.

If you use frozen, you’ll need more like 6 hours – which totally works if you want to put this on in the morning – cover and cook!

Once your chicken is done, you just lift the lid, shred with two forks and turn the crockpot to the warm setting.

You can eat right away or keep this right on the counter for everyone to enjoy when they are able to eat – if you have a busy evening as we usually do!

There are always leftovers for me to enjoy the next day or throughout the week for a quick warmed-up meal.

Boneless chicken breasts take anywhere from 2-3 hours to cook on high heat and 4-6 hours on low.
