See recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.

  • Cream of mushroom soup – I love the classic taste of CampbelI’s cream of mushroom soup in this recipe but choose your favorite brand.
  • Milk – I use whole milk for richness, but 2% milk works fine, too.
  • Salt and pepper
  • Cut green beans – I use canned green beans in this recipe for that familiar soft green bean casserole taste and texture.
  • French fried onions – French fried onions are easily found in a can!
  • Nonstick cooking spray

  • Try a different cream soup, like cream of celery or leek soup.

FAQs

How do you keep green bean casserole from being soupy?

Because this recipe cooks the green bean casserole in the slow cooker, there’s not too much danger of the casserole turning out too liquidy. However, if you are worried about your finished casserole being soupy, you can stir in a slurry made from cornstarch and water to help bind it together.

Which is better frozen or canned green beans for green bean casserole?

The best option definitely depends on your personal preference! For instance, some people prefer the classic preparation of using canned green beans in a slow cooker green bean casserole while others like using fresh or frozen green beans for a bit more crunch.

Should you rinse canned green beans before cooking?

If you’re concerned about how much sodium you’re eating, it is a good idea to drain and rinse the green beans before you stir them into the slow cooker. This will eliminate some of the added salt.
