As the weather gets warmer, the parties start going outside! We love spending time as a family at the park or even in our own backyard.

With all the BBQs and cookouts we do as a family, we learned a few things that I wanted to pass along to you. With these 10 tips, you’ll have a flawless cookout with your family too.

1.) Stock Up At Sam’s Club

My first tip is my most used and trusted one! Always stock up on your picnic and grilling supplies at Sam’s Club. Just go once, buy everything you need, and you’re done. Plus, you’ll save so much money in the process.

If you’re feeding a large group of people, shopping at a big box store where you can buy in bulk is key! It’s a great way to get a ton of food at an affordable price.

2.) Buy Quality Meats

My next tip is not to skimp on the meat quality. You and your family will be able to taste the difference. If you choose to grill chicken, steak, or pork, use kababs for easy cleanup and eating.

3.) Create a List of Supplies

Avoid the frustration of arriving at the campsite only to realize you don’t have utensils. Make a supply list so you check everything off. It will save you a lot of time and worry.

I like to use the notepad function on my phone so that I can just add it as I think of it. And since I always have my phone with me, I’m never at the store without my list!

4.) Always Make Dessert

This is just a fun one, but something that my family always looks forward to. Always plan for dessert. Cookouts and picnics should be a really fun time, so indulge a little bit. Splurge on a recipe that you don’t make very often. Maybe try some Peanut Butter Cup Brownies!

5.) Plan a Family Game

There are lots of games you can play outside. Get off the electronics and laugh together. If you plan for a game, you will be more likely to do it. This is especially important if you go somewhere only to realize you don’t have cellphone service.

You can easily set up washers or corn hole, or even just have a card table and chairs set up. It doesn’t have to be anything complicated at all.

6.) Go Somewhere New

I love planning with my husband to take our kids somewhere new. It’s a break from the monotony of life and a chance for us all to experience something together.

Do a bit of research first. Make sure that where you are going has tables and that they are easy to get to from the parking area. If you have a local park in the area, go there!

7.) Fight the Bugs and Sun

Pack sunscreen and bug spray. You can even bring DIY peppermint spray to mist on the picnic tables and cut down on bugs that try to attack your food.

There are also tent nets that you can put over the food to keep the bugs at bay as well!

8.) Use Portable Food Containers

Before the day of your cookout, make sure you have all the portable food containers that you need. That way you can go to the store and buy what you don’t have before you try to pack something that might spill in the car.

Make sure that you have lids for everything and that the containers are spill-proof so that you don’t have to worry about making a mess in your car.

9.) Make Cleanup Easy

One of the worst parts of picnics and cookouts is the cleanup. Pack an extra trash bag so that the clean up can be easier. I also like to pack an extra plastic bag for dirty dishes so they don’t get all over my nice bags.

Don’t forget wet wipes as well as they’re perfect for cleaning up and tossing in the trash. If you know that you’re going to have a lot of plastics and cans, make sure that you recycle!

10.) Take Lots of Pictures and Videos

Finally, make every moment count! Take videos and pictures. Maybe you can even turn this cookout into a mini memory book. When you capture the memories, you’ll have something happy to look back on and laugh about.
