Comforting Chicken and Turkey Soups
If there’s one soup recipe almost everyone’s grandma made, it’s chicken noodle! So of course, we kick off our list of comforting soup recipes with that all-time classic, but we don’t stop there. I’ve got some other chicken soups for you to try, plus a bonus turkey soup. (That one’s definitely worth saving some leftover turkey for!)

Creamy Vegetable Soups
Some of these creamy veggie soups are on the lighter side, while others are bulked up with heavy cream for richness or add-ins like bacon and cheese to make them meal-worthy. But either way, they are always cozy and comforting!

Soups That Eat Like a Meal
There’s no need to serve these soup recipes with anything else—they’ve got everything you need for a satisfying dinner all in a single bowl! (Of course, no one will complain if you serve some pillowy Yeast Dinner Rolls on the side for sopping up the last bits of broth.)

Hearty Beef Soup Recipes
Here are a few more soups that are filling enough that you can make them a meal! I’ve got options for ground beef and also beef vegetable soup, which is made with tender chunks of beef, just like grandma used to make!

Easy Cheesy Soups
Did I save the best for last? Maybe! I just adore a soup that’s creamy and cheesy. Who needs Panera when you can whip up soups like this at home?!

Tips for Freezing Soups
One of the things my grandma used to do is make BIG batches of soup and freeze them for later. And now that I have my own family, I do the same thing. After all, if you’re making one batch of soup, it’s not that hard to double it and make extra!
Here are some tips for freezing soup:
- Don’t freeze soups made with heavy cream. The cream can split, giving your soup an off-texture. If you’re planning a batch of soup for freezing and it’s made with heavy cream, simply don’t add the cream before freezing. Make the soup without the cream, freeze it, then add the heavy cream when you’re reheating it.
- Let the soup cool before freezing. Don’t leave it out too long or it will spoil, but let it come to room temperature. If you put piping hot soup in the freezer, it will heat up anything near it, causing potential food safety issues.
- Freeze it flat. I store soups in freezer bags so I can lay them flat in the freezer and stack them. It makes better use of precious freezer space!
- Store for 2-3 months. Even longer storage is fine for many pureed soups, but 2 to 3 months is a good general rule of thumb for most soup recipes.
- Thaw before reheating. This allows for much faster and more even reheating.

What to Serve With Soup
- Bread: You can’t beat these Soft and Buttery Parker House Rolls, but Homemade Garlic Bread is great too, especially with tomato soup! These Bisquick Biscuits are another favorite.
- Salads: A light salad with Italian Dressing is a great pairing for a heavier soup, or choose something more substantive like Homemade Antipasto Salad or Waldorf Salad for a light vegetable soup.
- Sandwiches: Can you even have tomato soup without a Grilled Cheese Sandwich for dunking?!
