4 Ingredient Berry Cake Mix Cobbler Recipe

Think of this mixed berry cobbler as a sort of dump cake. This means we simply dump all the ingredients into a pan and bake. With no mixing, kneading, or complicated steps required it couldn’t be easier to make!

It might feel a little strange to just pour the dry cake mix into the pan and put it in the oven, but trust me. I promise it works and always turns out great thanks to the use of Sprite!

Yes, you read that right. Sprite soda helps wet the cake mix, and the carbonation causes the mixture to bake up nice and fluffy. The lemon-lime flavor also adds extra depth to the flavor, complementing the sweetness of the berries perfectly.

The whole process really is pretty cool, and I know you’re going to love the final result! It’s a delicious dessert recipe perfect for BBQs, graduation parties, and anytime you want a sweet treat.

Ingredients for Berry Cake Mix Cobbler

To print: see recipe card below

ingredients to make berry cake mix cobbler.
  • 1 pound frozen mixed berries – I usually grab the frozen berry mix that has strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. However, any blend of berries will work for this recipe.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar – I like dark brown sugar for this recipe because it adds a complex flavor to a simple recipe.
  • 2 cups Sprite – In this case, the name brand works best. It has the best taste!
  • 1 box (15.25 ounces) Yellow cake mix – Any brand of cake mix will work, but I always like Betty Crocker’s Super Moist yellow mix.

Variations

  • Use one kind of berry rather than mixed berries. This recipe works wonderfully for strawberry cobbler, blueberry cobbler, or even pure blackberry cobbler.
  • Swap the frozen fruit for fresh berries instead.
  • Replace the brown sugar with regular sugar. I also like to add a teaspoon of vanilla extract when making this substitution just to get a little boost of flavor.
  • Replace the Sprite with 7-up or any other sweetened lemon-lime soda. As long as it has carbonation, it should work in this recipe!

Directions For How to Make This Mixed Berry Cobbler with Cake Mix

  1. Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Then, grease a 9×13 baking dish with baking spray or butter.
  2. Add the fruit: Pour the frozen berries into the greased pan. Spread them into a single, even layer in the bottom of the pan.
  3. Add sugar: Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly on top of the berries.
  4. Add cake mix: Sprinkle the dry cake mix straight from the box onto the berries. Distribute the cake mix as evenly as possible in the pan.
  5. Add the Sprite: Drizzle the Sprite over the cake mix. Try to wet all the dry cake mix. However, if there are a few dry spots, that is okay! The whole cobbler will become juicy and moist as the cake bakes.
  6. Bake: Bake the cake mix cobbler for about 45 minutes. The berry juice will be bubbling around the edges of the pan, and the cobbler top will be golden brown.
  7. Enjoy: Scoop and serve the cake mix cobbler while it is warm.

Serving Suggestions

This Berry Cake Mix Cobbler is tasty on its own. However, I think it’s best served warm with vanilla ice cream on top. You can never go wrong with a dollop of whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar, either!

How To Store + Reheat Berry Cake Mix Cobbler

  • Store leftovers covered with plastic wrap or transferred to an airtight container. They will stay fresh in the fridge for up to four to five days.
  • Freeze the cooled cobbler for up to three months.
  • Reheat thawed or frozen cobbler in the microwave just until warm.

Quick Tip

If you really like berries, consider using two pounds of mixed berries rather than just one pound. Then, double the brown sugar, and cook the cobbler for five minutes longer to create a very berry cobbler. This is perfect for people who love a big scoop of berry filling and want just a little bit of cobbler topping.

Just wondering why are adding sprint soda pop to the cobbler? Is there any simple cobber that you use sour cream to the recipe?
