This homemade Wendy’s Frosty tastes just like the iconic drive-thru treat — creamy, chocolatey, and spoon-thick, but made right in your own kitchen with just a few simple ingredients.

Why you’ll love this homemade Wendy’s frosty recipe!

I am a true Wendy’s frosty girl and have bought quite a few over the years. Then, I discovered how easy it is to make a copycat version at home! I even think I like my recipe better than the original!

Oh, and you should also whip up a batch of air fried French fries, or make yourself some cheeseburger sliders while you’re at it. Then, you can serve your food with a Frosty on the side. A classic fast food meal is much better with a homemade twist, especially with a chocolate Frosty included in the mix!

  • Super thick and creamy: It has the classic thick-but-drinkable Frosty texture.
  • Just 3 ingredients: It doesn’t get much easier than that!
  • No ice cream machine required: If you have a blender, that’s all the equipment you’ll need!
  • A total crowd-pleaser: Perfect for kids, parties, and summer nights.

Ingredients for a Homemade Wendy’s Frosty

Ingredients for homemade Wendy's frosty, including Cool Whip, condensed milk, and chocolate milk.

See recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.

  • Chocolate milk – Buy pre-made chocolate milk, or make your own chocolate milk by blending milk and chocolate syrup. You will need about 2 tablespoons of chocolate sauce for every one cup of whole milk.
  • Sweetened condensed milk – Make sure you get a small can of sweetened condensed milk and not evaporated milk!
  • Cool Whip – Cool Whip is my favorite brand of frozen dairy topping, but any brand will work.

Variations

  • Vanilla Frosty: Use regular whole milk and a splash of vanilla extract to make a vanilla Frosty.
  • Mint Frosty: Add ¼ teaspoon peppermint extract.
  • Big Batch: This recipe is very easy to double (or triple) so you can make extra for your whole family and friends!
  • Mocha Frosty: Add instant coffee granules.

Serving Suggestions

If you are like me, then you love dipping salty French fries into your cold Frosty. You can’t beat that sweet and salty taste! Make my air fryer sweet potato fries and parmesan fries to pair with your homemade Frosty.

How to Store a Wendy’s Frosty

You can make a big batch of this Frosty recipe, and keep it in the freezer for up to one month.

When you’re ready to drink, purée the mixture in a blender to create s creamy, drinkable consistency. I recommend portioning the fresh Frosty into smaller, individual containers to freeze. Then, you’ll have the right size Frosty anytime the mood hits!

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s the difference between Wendy’s Frosty and ice cream?

A Frosty is more like a thick milkshake or a soft serve ice cream rather than a hard ice cream. While Frosties do contain dairy, they do not have the required 10% butterfat to be considered a true ice cream. This is why Frosties are called a “dairy dessert” rather than a real ice cream.

What is in a Wendy’s Frosty?

A Frosty at Wendy’s has a long list of ingredients which includes water, sugar, powdered milk, sunflower creamer, cocoa powder, whey, stabilizers, and flavorings. My copycat recipe is much simpler with just chocolate milk, sweetened condensed milk, and Cool Whip!

Is Wendy’s Frosty real dairy?

Traditional Wendy’s Frosties contain powdered milk and whey (a milk protein) As a result, they contain dairy and are not suitable for those with dairy intolerances or allergies.

Can I make Wendy’s Frosty without an ice cream maker?

Yes! This recipe is no-churn and only requires a blender and freezer.

Notes

  • Stir once halfway through freezing for the creamiest consistency
  • Let it sit at room temp for 5 minutes before serving
  • If the Frosty mixture is left in the freezer too long, it can get quite hard. If this happens, just pop the mix back into the blender, and purée to break up the drink and make it thick and smooth.

I was very disappointed that the author did not provide a basic measurement for the ingredients in the recipe. Just an explanation, photo and instructions without the measurements were provided. Very disappointed, plus too many ads on the page kept on refreshing the page and sending me back to the top while reading and scrolling.
