All About Grapefruits

One of the best varieties of grapefruits to buy are grown right here in the US. Florida grapefruit is at its sweetest and juiciest right at the peak of winter (January-March), making it a great source of delicious, ripe fruit at a time when many others are not available.

Florida’s unique fertile soil and lush subtropical climate are what make Florida grapefruit the sweetest and juiciest variety of grapefruit in the world, but they can also take a toll on the outer appearance of the fruit – don’t judge a book by it’s cover!

The sun, humidity and rains during Florida’s growing season are a blessing when it comes to producing flavor and juiciness, but as a result, Florida grapefruit’s exterior appearance doesn’t always look as flawless as grapefruit grown in other areas – though it certainly tastes better.

You may be wondering how to eat a grapefruit – it’s easy!

  1. First, pick out a grapefruit at the store that is firm but not too firm.
  2. Then once you get it home, wash the outside under water or in a vinegar and water dunk. This is my favorite way to wash my fruits and veggies!
  3. Next, cut the grapefruit in half.
  4. Insert a spoon or knife (ideally one that has a serrated tip) in the grapefruit along the sides of each segment and take out a chunk.
