You’re going to love this all natural play dough recipe! It’s fast, easy, and so much fun to make! Perfect for the kids!
One of the great things about the Internet is finding out new and fun things from other bloggers. There isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t find a recipe or a project that I’d like to do.
Just the other day, my friend Amanda from Natural Mommie, posted a simple, all natural recipe for Play dough.
I’ve tried several recipes before and haven’t ever one that really resembled “real” store bought dough. But, this one looked simple and I had all the ingredients on hand, so I whipped it up.
WOW! We loved this recipe! It ย is NOW my go-to recipe forย play doughย ย Simple. Simple. Simple! It’s so perfect that I couldn’t wait to share it all with you, right here!
Make sure to check out Natural Mommie, too! There are a ton of recipes like this and posts that you’ll love!
Tips for Making Homemade Playdough
I ended upย triplingย this recipe because we have a lot of littles around here! I added a few drops of the Wilton Food Gels to color it and also some of my doTERRAย essentialย oils that I LOVE! (more on that to come soon!!) ย
For the pink I used peppermint and a little glitter and the teal I used lemon. Mmmmm….that both smelled good enough to eat! (but don’t eat it!) LOL! I guess you could since it’s all natural, but I don’t think it would taste good.
When you’re mixing it together, it will eventually form a ball. It takes a little bit of time over low heat, but it will happen. Just keep stirring.
Once you pull it off the heat, let it cool on a place mat for a little big and then start kneading it like bread to get it all smooth and uniform. I actually enjoyed this part! It smelled so good and I may have kinda played with it and formed it into things to check it out…for the kids, of course!

Then, I put it to the test – I gave it to the kiddos! SUCCESS! They loved it!! They loved how it felt, how it stayed together and didn’t crumble and how it smelled. I kid you not, every kid from ages 3 – 7 played for almost 2 hours with JUST the play dough. No tools or fancy gadgets made for play dough play. Just their hands and their imagination. I was in love!
Try this out the next chance you get! With only 4 main ingredients and water, you can have a natural alternative to the chemical filled stuff from the store!
Don’t forget to check out Natural Mommie for lots more fun and info! She’s awesome!
*NOTE* I actually read the recipe wrong and ONLY added a 1/4 tsp of salt to myย play doughย and it STILL came out perfect.
FAQs
To keep playdough soft, keep it stored in an airtight container.
This all just depends on how well it’s stored. If it’s stored well, it should last for a few weeks!
