June is a tricky month for fresh produce. It feels like summer. It’s hot! The sun is shining! But the transition from spring to summer means that all those fabulous summer veggies aren’t quite in season yet.
That said, there’s still a lot of deliciousness that’s in season right now! And cooking in season lets you support local farmers and it’s less expensive too. Let’s dig in! Here’s what to cook in June.
What is In Season in June?

Berries! June is prime strawberry season, but you’ll also find blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries at the market too. (And if you go a little overboard buying strawberries and they start going mushy, be sure to use my strawberry ice water hack to perk them up.) Here are some recipes that put these sweet little gems to good use!

Asparagus

June is the tail-end of asparagus season, so get it while you can! I love cooking asparagus restaurant-style and serving it alongside grilled chicken in June, but you can also add it to one of these recipes.

Peas

Fresh peas, including sugar snap and English peas, are at their best in June. While English peas are a little bit of a pain to shell, they are such a treat, I don’t even mind it! These recipes call for frozen or canned peas, but you can swap in fresh.

Cherries

Cherries range from tart to sweet, and while they can be pretty darn pricy the rest of the year, when they’re in season, you can get them when they’re most affordable. Make your own cherry pie filling from scratch and put them to use in these desserts instead of canned filling.
Zucchini

Zucchini season really starts kicking into gear later in the summer, but I love early season zucchini, which is tender and mild in flavor. Rather than grating it into Zucchini Bread or using it for Zucchini Boats, I like using this smaller zucchini in lots of dishes.

Rhubarb

Rhubarb: you either love it or you hate it. But no list of what to cook in June would be complete without it! If this tart, puckery veggie is your jam, I’ve got a few fun ideas for you. (And yes, jam is literally one of them.)
