With Thanksgiving only TWO days away, some of you (me included!) might be still wondering what to make along side your turkey or ham. Growing up, we always, always, always had turkey and ham with sides of mashed potatoes, corn, sweet potato casserole, deviled eggs and yeast rolls. When I met my husband and attended his family’s Thanksgiving gatherings, there were different items every year. Always the turkey and pumpkin pie, but different side dishes. And believe it or not, I was 22 before I ever had green been casserole! I hadn’t even heard of it in West Virginia. And to tell you the truth, I don’t really care for it and it’s my husbands FAVORITE side dish. HA! One year I decided to gourmet it up and made the entire dish from scratch with no canned ingredients – not even those fried onion things. I loved it! It was full of butter and mushrooms and onions. Mmmmm! So good! Not the same to my husband.
So, this year I’m looking for some new ideas to take with my to in-law’s house, I checked one of my favorite sites that has tried and true recipes EVERY time. Pillsbury.
Pillsbury’s recipes are tested SEVERAL times before ever hitting your dinner table. They have chefs that come up with the recipes and try them out, then they make them for everyone in the test kitchen and then have panels of people trying them before they are published. So, you know that if you follow one of their recipes, it’s going to be good and turn out. Exactly what you need for a big Thanksgiving meal.
