If you’re on Facebook much (and if you’re not – you should be!) you’ve probably seen some pictures of a spooky-looking broom standing up on its own. Some people say it’s fake and some sort of trick, but, I’m here to tell you that it’s real! I’ve jumped on the broom trick bandwagon and have been having a little fun standing up our broom all over the kitchen.

They say that this type of phenomenon can only happen during the equinox – which is coming up. I’ve also read that it can happen at anytime during the year. One article actually gives instructions on how to do it by using a brand new broom and positioning the bristles just so.

Well, I have a 4 year old broom and just stood it up after a little balancing. Not sure if it will work year-round, but I’ll let you know. For now…here’s a few of my pictures standing up a broom on it’s own.

See how much fun you can have with a broom?! Have you tried this trick at your home? Make sure to leave a link to your Facebook page or blog so that we can all see your pictures, as well!

So….what do you think? Phenomenon or Trick???

  1. I’ll tell ya’ll it has nothing to do with anything other than how good you can balance your broom on it’s bristles nothing to do with planatary positions or celestrial paterns being formed in outer space now everything on earth can be balanced try a rake or mop or somthing else lol and see if you get the same effect well anyways have fun

  2. The test (which I haven’t tried yet) to see if its a planetary, electromagnetism, static electricity or whatever the claimed phenomenon may be is to try balancing other straight metal objects

  3. Mine only worked east to west as well..and after about 20 attempts ;op

  4. I’ve done it both north and south AND east and west, too.

  5. Catherine says:

I got mine to work north to south and east to west!

  6. It only works east to west, not north to south.

  7. I for the life of me can’t get it to work lol. This is so neat though.

    1. I have no idea how it does it. Sometimes it does it immediately and sometimes it take a minute or two. Really weird tho! haha!

      1. Kasey, do you happen to know what brand of broom that is?

      2. HelloKasey, do you happen to know what brand of broom that is I’ve been looking all over the internet to try to find it

      3. Kasey Schwartz says:

I think this was a target brand broom. 🙂
