HI everyone! Happy Monday! How in the world do the weekdays go so slow and the weekends go so fast?! I think we should move to 3 day weekends and only a 4 day work week. Who’s with me???

Well, this weekend I finally got a project completed  (with the help of my ever so helpful and loving husband!) that I’ve wanted to do all Summer! We painted our front door! Yes, it’s the little things that makes me very happy.

It’s a beautiful blue color – Wythe Blue to be exact! After seeing several examples on Pinterest of this beautiful blue color, I knew that it was for us. Especially since I have this love of blue going on in my house. I wanted the front door to be a preview of what’s to come inside.

Remember what it looked like before when I painted the flower pots, added pillows and flowers at the beginning of the Summer? Plain white with outdated brass hardware.

Blah. Nothing special. But now…

Blue Wythe Door

WOW! OH! WOW! LOVE. LOVE. LOVE!!!!

I can’t get over how much different it has made our whole house feel! With just a couple of coats of paint – it’s made a huge change.

I used Benjamin Moore’s Wythe Blue in a Semi Gloss – but had it mixed at Lowe’s. I love BM – but the closest one is 20 minutes away and Lowes is much closer. So, I used Valspar’s Duramax Exterior Paint and Primer and I was more than happy with the results.

Using a brush, I painted the panels of the door first. Which, by the way is a standard metal door – not wood. I didn’t prime first since the paint said it had a primer in it and I hate priming and always do two coats no matter what. Then, I painted the flat parts of the sides, top and bottom of the door. I let it dry for about an hour and put on the second coat. That’s all it needed to have a beautiful full coverage glossy finish.

Before I started painting, I removed the door knob, dead bolt, door knocker and kickplate. I was going to replace them with new – but those suckers are expensive!! So, I used my new best friend for all things metal in my house – Rustoleum’s Oil Rubbed Bronze spray paint.

I L.O.V.E. this stuff! I’ve used it on our metal headboard and most of the door knobs in our whole house! So instead of spending $10-$20 on one door knob – I spend $8.00 on one can of paint and do them all! It’s an awesome finish and you can’t tell the difference. Totally worth the extra time to paint them – which really isn’t long at all.

Oil Rubbed Bronze Hardware

I love how the dark hardware looks with the blue/gray paint. It’s perfect for us! We also painted the sidelights with a standard white color so that the whole door and windows look updated and crisp.

Moral of the story….if you’re thinking about painting your front door – DO IT! It’s very inexpensive and doesn’t take long to do. AND if you’re like me and buy a gallon of paint, you can paint the inside of the door , too! Which is NEXT on my list. AND you can paint other things with said paint. Like…the chairs in the kitchen which you’ve been meaning to do for a while with your new, never out of the box, spray painter thingy. Yep. That’s coming too! Ok…one more time….
