As I was decorating this year, I realized that my mantel needed a Christmas makeover! Usually, I add some stockings, a garland and maybe a figure or two. But, this year I really wanted to dress it up a little – without breaking the bank!

So, when I put my plan together, I knew that I wanted to create an Advent Calendar garland that would hang from the bottom. I just love the way that looks and the kids have really enjoyed it! (I’ll share my tutorial on that later!) Paper bunting has a similar look.

Next, I pulled a mirror from another area and rested it on the mantel where I hung a wreath right in the middle of the mirror with a bow that I made. Very inexpensive and it looks beautiful!

The rattan stars and snowmen are  from Pier One for under $10 a piece! What a deal! And, the angel gourd to the left…that was from my mom. She painted it for my grandparents when they were alive. I leave her out year-round.

The other items are ones that I had around the house. I just love the way it all came together in layers. I just added in my larger items and filled in with smaller ones until it looked just right. Now, I just need to pick up a stocking for our newest family member and we’ll be set!

Do you decorate your mantel for Christmas? Where did you find your inspiration? Mine was Pinterest, of course! For another fun holiday idea, check out this Thankful Tree.
