Our family looks forward to celebrating Advent every year. After all, Jesus’s birth is the entire reason for the season!
Our kids get so excited for all the fun activities, crafts and stories we do during this blessed season. One of the things they look forward to most is our Advent Calendar each year! They love to see what it will be each day!
I’ve done a couple different Advent garlands on our mantle over the years. It givesย a beautiful festive look to our fireplace. But this year I’m doing something different…
This year I decided to go a different route and createdย a Vintage Advent Calendar Wall Hanging!
I just love how it turned out!
I got a little crafty and painted the brown frame of my cork board with Old White Annie Sloan Chalk paint. I then distressed it and added a white and red ribbon for a vintage look.
It came out just the way I pictured it would!
I wanted to give the kids a treat to open each day – so I gathered up my supplies of brown craft treat bags, Marthaย Stewart Advent stamps and inkย andย washi tape to add a little color to the bags.
I thought about hanging the bags from twine (as you’ll see in the picture) but I decidedย to use simple white tacks to hang each bag.
Aren’t the stampsย adorable?!
It wasn’t hard and didn’t take long at all to stamp the bags.
I filled each one with 3 pieces of candy (one for each of my children) ranging from gold coins, chocolate bars toย hard candy. Something for each of the candy lovers in my house!
Classic, beautiful and most of all – simple! I love it! I love that the kids are so excited to open the bags each day to see what’s inside and then run to grab their bibles to read the story of the day.
We are once again using The Jesus Story Book Bible plan that we’ve used in years past. It is written for children (and adults!) of all ages and the photos are beautiful. It’s become a tradition in our house.
You can read more about it on my post where I link up to a printable plan for you to use in your own family!
Advent is a special time of year. Celebrate it. Explain it. Enjoy it with your family this year and always! Creating a Vintage Advent Calendar is the perfect way to celebrate the season!
