We woke up to cooler temperatures this morning – in the 70’s. Compared to last weeks 100’s, that’s pretty cool. It kind of feels like the beginning of Fall out there. Though I know that (thankfully) there still IS some Summer left. But, for us, school starts next week.!
WOW! Can you believe it?! It feels like we just got out for Summer break and now we’re talking about getting school supplies and bus schedules! Yes, my baby is heading off to Kindergarten this year and this mamma is having a rough time with it. I know that she’s ready and truth is…I’m not. I think this first step in her educational career is a tough one. To think about school, grades, friends, homework, playground…it’s a lot for a little girl. But, she’s growing and is ready for that interaction and learning. She’s already reading a little and has a hunger for learning more.
Ella is also growing emotionally. The preschooler that I’ve known for a while, is now turning into a big girl with big thoughts. She talks about clothes and music, friends and God. She’s constantly surprising me with her depth of knowledge for the things she talks about.
She has been asking for a while to get her ears pierced, but wasn’t really quite ready…until a week ago. After actually seeing a little girl in the mall get her ears pierced, she decided that she was ready and began saving up her money to go get them done. I really thought she’d change her mind, so we waited about 2 weeks before letting her get them done. The day came and she was brave as can be, she picked out the earrings she wanted, hopped up into the chair and grabbed my hand. The first ear provoked a little frown, but it was quickly replaced with a huge, proud smile when the 2nd ear was complete.

Here she is right after. All smiles and NO tears! I was so happy and proud (and a bit surprised!)! She was so excited to have her new earrings in and was already picking out what she’d put in them once they were healed in 6-8 weeks.

She’s already told me about 100 times how much she loves her new earrings and how proud she is of herself and has been taking care of them all by herself. I think this was a huge self-confidence booster for her and proves to me just how much she is growing. So, when the first day of Kindergarten comes next week, and my baby is waving good-bye from the door with her pretty, pink, sparkly earrings, I’m going to feel a little better knowing that she is ready for this next step. I just hope that I am.

She is precious and such a big girl!
I know that you don’t remember this, but when you were born, your Uncle Bryan and Aunt Letty sent diamond earrings. Down in Brownsville, TX. almost all the newborn girls get their ears pierced. Your mom and I weren’t ready… and I’m pretty sure we insulted them. How old were you when “we” were finally ready?
Love,
Pop
So beautiful! she is amazing… like the sun!
Brave girl! I would have cried if mine were pierced at that age.
Aww she is precious , my girl will attend Head Start again this year . Only half days and then K next year i think K is full days here now . Do they do half days or full days there? I’m not looking forward to it but then with all the changes in my life I want to work outside the home. I’m going to try and get through on more year at home.
I do remember the first day my first one started school and I cried like a baby. I think I was more upset then she was, they just grow to fast. Can’t wait to see a post and pictures about the first day of school.
Her earrings are sweet I wanted to get Olivias done but I’m going to wait another year.
So cute!
I always said that when my daughter asked to get her ears pierced, I would take her. She asked on her 3rd bday so we went with it. I have never regretted it. I would put the cleaner on a cotton ball and she dabbed it and turned her earrings. Now she get so excited when she gets a new pair! It’s super cute!
Enjoy the first day of school!!
She is so precious, what a big day for her! Kaydence just passed the 8 week waiting period and put her first “non-pokey” earrings in.
Oh, I bet she was excited to be able to change them!
She is so cute! Grace is starting Kindergarten too. I have told her no ear piercing yet though. I won’t let her see this! =P Good luck as she starts school … I have to say, I am ready for school to start as Grace has spent ALL summer asking when school starts! Sad but I am just ready to say tomorrow!;)
Awww…I know! Some days I am REALLY READY for school to start…but some days not. 🙁
That is SO sweet! We had our first daughters done when she was 4 months old, but have yet to have our 2nd daughters done.
Thanks, Shasta!
Awww I think it is great you waited for her to be ready. I regret getting Zoe’s done when she was an infant. They messed up so we had to take them out. Congrats to her on her new earrings!
Yes, I was nervous about them messing them up…but I was really careful about seeing where they put them. Her little earlobes are tiny! haha!
