I’m not one of those people that has my Christmas shopping done by Thanksgiving. Nope, not me. I am usually still buying last minute gifts for the kids on Christmas Eve and up wrapping even later. I usually have some idea of what I’m going to buy for the kids, I just do it a little later than I should.

I kinda feel on top of it this year since I do have a pretty good start on my shopping. I’ve picked up Ella and Andrew’s #1 present they’ve asked for and a few little things, but I can’t seem to make up my mind on a “big” gift for them. I like to have that WOW gift that is their favorite gift for them each year, but this year, I’m having trouble deciding.

Ella & Andrew both got a bike this summer – so that is out. No trampoline since I can’t have one with the daycare here – same for a swimming pool. So, I’m thinking a Bounce House. Ella’s FAVORITE thing to do is jump around all over the place and her brother is starting to take up that hobby as well.

We just went to a Birthday Party where the little girl had one of those 10×10 or so houses up and the kids never wanted to get out! It was so much fun and they couldn’t get enough! The thing is, they are a little pricey. After a little research, a good one will probably cost over $200. To me, that is a little much. I guess it is a joint gift – so it doesn’t sound that bad. But, I like to get lots of gifts for the kids to open and I’m afraid this will put a huge dent in my Christmas Gift budget.

So, I’m wondering, what do you do for Christmas? Do you go all out and get whatever your kids want or do you buy a little more conservatively, buying only a few nice gifts. AND, do you buy that one WOW gift? We, by no means, buy it all – but I like to have a good amount for the kids to open on Christmas morning to make it exciting!

Just wondering your opinions!

We usually the gifts to $75 to $100 per child. But this year we are thinking in addition we’re going to buy a family gift and get season passes for Knight’s Action Park to use next summer.

    1. Kasey says:

Well, that is a nice family gift! Something that will be used and that you can all enjoy together. I’ve never been there – but I think they kids will be big enough to enjoy it next Summer!

Our big gift from Santa this year is a bike for each boy. I actually organize my list with Small, Medium and Big, Videos, Books, Games, Clothes and Stocking Stuffers. Then I get something(s) for each category. Some “biggish” gifts end up being shared, like a HUGE train set or huge LEGO set, since they can get pricey.

I have bought a small Little Tikes Bounce and Water Slide during the summer – got a pretty good deal – for $200. A lot less than the $$$ some of them are and perfectly sized for the kids.

    1. Kasey says:

Organizing gifts into categories is a great idea! I’m always just walking around, pulling things off the shelf and forgetting what I have already bought. I think I’ll have to use your idea this year!

  15. Kasandria Reasoner says:

We always have 1 “BIG” gift from Santa then little stuff to go with it. This year my son is getting a cool Mongoose Bike and my daughter is getting a Nintendo DSi. I think a Bounce House would be a GREAT one!
    Kas

    1. Kasey says:

It’s kinda hard these days to have a “big” gift since all those little gifts are expensive! A bike and a DSi are wonderful gifts – your kids will be happy!

  16. Carol says:

I like to have that “WOW” gift too. That is usually something that Santa brings, though. My girls are 7 & 9, so this will probably the last year for Santa to bring stuff. At least then I will get some credit!

I have a budget, and I really try to stick to it. I think I’m already over for this year. Oops! I start shopping in the summer (we have spring birthdays), so I can get the best deal on the things that they want. I have about 2 or 3 gifts left + stocking stuffers. Last week I got $160 worth of stuff for $72. My best trip yet!!

    1. Kasey says:

Oh yes – SANTA! He does get all the credit for the good gifts at my house as well.

I would be afraid that if I started shopping too early, I’d just buy and buy and buy some more. It is a great idea if you stick to your budget!
