In the early days of nursing a newborn, it seems that’s all you get accomplished. Nurse, sleep, poop. Nurse, sleep, poop. It’s an endless cycle around the clock. So instead of  letting your mind wander to what you could be doing (dishes, laundry, playing with the older kids, etc…)  embrace this sweet time and take it as a time to connect with baby and relax. Here’s some quick tips for creating a nursing basket to keep what you need at your fingertips while nursing baby throughout the day.

When I sit down, I inevitably need something – a burp cloth, a sip of water, a snack and if my husband isn’t around, I have to unlatch baby and get up to get it or just wait. So, I decided to put together a nursing basket that has anything I might need during this time.

This basket sits beside my couch in my family room where I usually sit with baby during the day to nurse. I keep it stocked with:

– a burp cloth
– an extra blanket – in case baby is chilly
– a nursing cover – for those unexpected guests
– extra breast pads
– extra outfit for baby – for those blowouts that always happen, that way I have an outfit handy and don’t have to go upstairs to get another.
– bottle of water
– snack
– a notebook for jotting down thoughts and my to-do list since I’m always thinking about what I need to do later in the day

I have another basket in my bedroom like this one and one in the baby’s room that way I have what I need no mater where I am and I don’t have to go searching for a burp cloth or drink of water when I need it most.

It’s little things like this that helps keep my day going smoother and a little more organized in the midst of what sometimes seems crazy. I hope this tip helps you out a little, too!
