Hot Ham Pie

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup unsalted butter
  • ½ medium onion minced
  • 1 stalk celery minced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups chicken stock
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Pinch of nutmeg
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables carrots, peas, broccoli, green beans, etc.
  • 4-6 ounces cooked ham diced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley chopped
  • Kosher salt & black pepper to taste
  • 1 9” frozen pie crust, thawed
  • All-purpose flour for dusting

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400F. Lightly grease an 8”-9” pie plate.
  • In a Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium-high heat and add the onion and celery. Cook for 4 minutes, add the garlic, and continue to cook for another 2 minutes or until the vegetables are soft and garlic is fragrant.

  • Add the flour and stir. Cook for 2 minutes. Add the chicken stock and milk and whisk until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes. Add the nutmeg. Reduce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes. Add the mixed vegetables and remove from the heat for 10 minutes.

  • Add the ham and parsley and season to taste with salt and pepper. Stir to combine.
    4-6 ounces cooked ham, 2 tablespoons parsley, Kosher salt & black pepper to taste
  • Pour the mixture into the prepared pie dish and set aside.
    1 9” frozen pie crust, thawed
  • On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the pie dough to an inch larger than your dish. Carefully move the dough to the pie dish. Crimp the edges and cut several vents into the dough.
    All-purpose flour for dusting
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until browned and bubbly. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.
