This homemade white sandwich bread is the best sandwich bread you’ll ever eat—and it’s easier to make than you think! With just a few everyday ingredients, you can make fluffy white bread with a perfect golden brown crust.
All-purpose flour Instant yeast Granulated sugar Butter Kosher salt Whole milk Water
Add the dry ingredients to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a dough hook attachment. Blend the ingredients at low speed.
1
Slowly pour in 1 ½ cups of the milk, followed by 1 cup of water. Gradually increase the speed to medium.
2
Continue to mix until the dough is smooth and begins to stretch and pull away from the sides of the bowl. At this point, turn out the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it by hand for a couple of minutes.
3
Place the ball of bread dough in a lightly oiled mixing bowl and cover it loosely with a damp kitchen towel or plastic wrap.
4
Set the bowl in a warm place and let it rise until it is doubled in bulk.
5
Gently turn the dough out onto a floured surface and use your hands to press it into a rough rectangle.
6
Cut the dough into two equal pieces, then roll each piece into a log, about 9 inches long, pinching down the seam to seal it.
7
Place each log into a greased 9×5 bread pan with the seam side down. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and set the pans in a warm place. Let the dough rise for an hour or two. During the last few minutes of rising time, preheat the oven to 350ºF.
8
Gently brush the tops of the white sandwich bread loaves with the reserved milk, then bake for 40 to 50 minutes.
9
Carefully turn out the loaves onto a wire rack. Let the bread cool completely before slicing.
