For Watermelon Cubes
Rinse the whole watermelon and dry it.
Place the watermelon on a sturdy cutting board. Hold one hand to stead the watermelon while using the other hand to slice it in half crosswise with a sharp kitchen knife so that you get two circular halves.
Slice off the stem from both halves.
Place the one half of watermelon cut side down on the cutting board. Steady the watermelon with one hand and angle the knife with the other hand on the side of the melon. Move the knife downwards towards the cutting board to cut off the rind and white flesh. Work your way around until only the watermelon flesh is left. Repeat this for the other half of the watermelon.
Slice the watermelon into equal thirds for both halves. Slice the thirds into uniform cubes.
For Watermelon Wedges
Rinse the whole watermelon and dry it.
Place the watermelon on a sturdy cutting board. Hold one hand to stead the watermelon while using the other hand to slice it in half lengthwise with a sharp kitchen knife so that you get two oblong halves.
Slice off the stem from both halves.
Place the one half of watermelon cut side down on the cutting board. Steady the watermelon with one hand and slice the oblong half down the middle. Repeat this with the other oblong half. You should now have 4 pieces of cut watermelon.
Place one quarter on the cutting board and slice crosswise into uniform-sized wedges. Repeat this for the remaining quarters. You can choose to leave the rind and white flesh on or remove it before serving.
