This copycat recipe for Portillo’s chocolate cake is so easy to make, you’ll wonder why you’ve been buying it all these years!

It’s decadent, chocolaty, and has a secret ingredient to make it rich and moist.


Betty Crocker Devil’s Food cake mix Eggs Ice cold water Mayonnaise Betty Crocker chocolate frosting

Combine all of the ingredients in a medium mixing bowl and stir until well incorporated.


Divide the batter into the prepared cake pans and bake the cakes for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.


Let the cakes cool in the pans on a wire rack for 10 minutes, then carefully remove the cakes and set them back on the wire racks to finish cooling.


Put one of the cakes on a plate and spread about ¾ of one can of frosting over the top.


Place the second cake on top and use the rest of the frosting to frost the sides and top of the cake.
