How To Make THE BEST No-Bake Oreo Dessert Recipe EVER

This simple recipe is one of my favorite desserts for a reason. I can make this during the holiday season or just as a fun way to make an amazing dessert to share with family and friends. Easy recipes are the best recipes to share with those you love!

This is one of those decadent recipes that are the perfect way to use regular Oreos. If you have a hard time trying anything different than this heavenly oreo dessert, you know that means it’s a brilliant idea to make it more often!

Ingredients For Oreo Dessert

Gather up the following ingredients to make the easiest Oreo Dessert recipes, ever!

  • Double Stuffed Oreos – When you have more filling, you have more flavor! I love the middle of the Oreos!
  • Butter – You’ll want to use unsalted butter for this simple recipe. It also needs to be softened to room temperature.
  • Package vanilla instant pudding – Make sure that it’s Instant Pudding. This is key for this recipe to set up.
  • Cream cheese – Softened to room temperature is so important so there aren’t any lumps of cream cheese.
  • Whole milk – I think that using whole milk adds a nice creaminess to the rest of the recipe.
  • Cool whip – Thawed so that it’s easy to spread.

Variations

Here are a few tweaks I have tried with this recipe that have worked well.

  • Use chocolate pudding rather than vanilla for a very rich, no-bake chocolate dessert.
  • Try using different flavored Oreos. Stick with the name brand cookies but go for the birthday cake flavor, peanut butter Oreos or those new “Most Oreo Oreo’s”.
  • Try freezing the dessert for a tasty, ice-cream-like Oreo treat.
  • Toppings are a great way to change up the recipe, too. Hot fudge topping is always a good idea and you can even add some white chocolate chips or take the sweetness over the top and add some chopped peanut butter cups.

How to Make No-Bake Oreo Dessert

  1. Break up the Oreos: First – use REAL Oreos for this recipe. Don’t try to save a dollar and use store-brand cookies. REAL Oreos are best. I use DOUBLE STUFFED Oreos in my dish. I really feel like the extra “stuff” makes a big difference. Break up the Oreos with your hands into big pieces. The ENTIRE package of Oreos will be used for this recipe. It’s not time to worry about calories for this one! Save about 1/4 of the package to the side to crumble up on top.
  2. Add to the baking dish: Once you have 3/4 of the package broken up into larger pieces (about 3-4 pieces for 1 Oreo), add those to the bottom of a 13×9 Baking Dish. I like to use a 13×9 dish because it seems to set up nicely and it’s easy to scoop out servings cleanly. Next, you’ll pour the melted butter right over the top of the Oreos and set the dish to the side while you make your pudding mixture.
  3. Make the pudding mixture: For the pudding mixture – this is where people seem to have the most trouble – add 1 LARGE package of Jello INSTANT pudding to a large mixing bowl. Read this with me again – INSTANT PUDDING. Do NOT try to use Cook and Serve Pudding. It WILL NOT work and you most definitely will end up with soup. I’m pretty sure this is where people make the mistake and end up with watery pudding.
So, again – use 1 LARGE Package of Vanilla Instant Pudding and add to a mixing bowl. Then, add in 3 cups TOTAL of whole milk OR 2% milk to the pudding in the large mixing bowl. Do not use skim milk. I’ve found that it doesn’t set up as well. Once you’ve added in the milk turn on your mixer or use a hand held mixer and get to work! I like to use my whisk attachment for this recipe.
If you watch my video below, in real time, you will see that I mix it for a little while until it starts to really thicken up. Instant Pudding WILL thicken before you add it to your dish. This is also where you would add in the sugar that the recipe calls for.
I have to be honest and tell you that I never add sugar anymore. I used to add it but I really don’t think it’s needed. Tip:  Try the recipe exactly as written and then tweak from there. That’s how I make every recipe unless I know that a small change won’t affect the outcome of the written recipe.
So, with this Oreo Dessert, you can either add it or leave it out. It won’t affect the outcome – only the sweetness.
  4. Add the cream cheese: The next step is to add in SOFTENED Cream CheesePhiladelphia Cream Cheese is best! The easiest way to soften cream cheese is to unwrap the cream cheese from the foil wrapper and leave it out on the counter while you are preparing all the cookies and pudding for this recipe. 30 minutes would be ideal if you have time.
Another, quicker, way to soften cream cheese is to use your microwave. Just unwrap the cream cheese, add it to a small plate and either use your “soften cream cheese” setting or just heat for 30 seconds – that usually does the trick.
Once the cream cheese is softened, cut it into smaller pieces and add it to the pudding mixture and mix away again. It should incorporate mostly but will be lumpy. Lumps are fine – not huge chunks but just where it’s noticeable that you added in something to the smooth pudding.
  5. Fold in the Cool Whip: Once you’re done mixing away, now FOLD in the Cool Whip. I should also add that COOL WHIP Brand is best – just like REAL Oreos and Philly Cream Cheese – don’t try to save a buck and just go for it!
To fold means to lightly use a spatula and turn the Cool Whip over and over in the bowl until incorporated well. The Cool Whip should be completely thawed.
Just add it to your fridge instead of the freezer when you bring it home from the store if you’ll be using it within a few days.
  6. Pour on the pudding mixture: Now, you’re ready to add the pudding mixture to your broken up Oreos in the 13×9 pan. Just pour the entire pudding mixture right over the top. It should be nice and thick but NOT watery at all. Spread it out evenly in the pan with a spatula.
Now, it’s time to take your remaining Oreos and add to the top of the dish. You have two choices here – you can break up the Oreos just like you did for the bottom of the dish OR you can add them to a large Ziploc bag and use a mallet and break them up into smaller pieces and crumbs. It’s up to you!
  7. Chill in the fridge: Chill! Let this dessert chill in the fridge for at the very least 1 hour. 3-4 hours is best. You can even make this the day before your big event!

Quick Tip

Rather than make this delicious Oreo dessert in a baking pan, try making it in individual glasses or ramekins. Simply divide the Oreos between about 8 glasses and top with the pudding mix. This is a great way to make perfect, easy individual desserts.

How to Store No-Bake Oreo Dessert

Once your Oreo dessert is complete, cover the baking dish with plastic wrap and keep it in the fridge. It will keep for about 2-3 days. Just keep in mind that the Oreos will get softer as they sit in the pudding and lose a little of the crunch. All the more reason to eat it as soon as possible!

Comments

  1. 1. I mix my butter into my mixture
    2. I use two small boxes of pudding
    3. This is best made with POWDERED sugar not granulated sugar

  2. GrumpyCook says:

Where people typically mess up and get a watery pudding is from the lack of instructions for the ingredients necessary. I went to the grocery store specifically to get these ingredients straight from your recipe. Never does it say in the list of ingredients to get a large package of pudding mix so I grabbed the regular size. As I’m mixing the pudding together I realize it’s very watery. I look back at the very smart-aleck directions and see the one time the recipe calls for a large pudding mix. THATS IMPORTANT!!!

  3. Too many pop-up ads. Super annoying.

  4. You didn’t say how much butter or cool whip!

  5. The butter on the bottom made ruined the last few bits of this 🙁 May I suggest: forget the butter.

  6. Ashleigh Watson says:

One of our favorite desserts to make in our house! We use fat free milk, though, plus light cool whip and the less fat version of cream cheese and have never had an issue 🙂 it always sets perfectly and is delicious! plus saves a few calories 😉

    1. I don’t have a mixer can I make the pudding without one? Just hand whisk it?

  7. The written recipe says add melted butter to the layer of oreos but that step was not done in the video? Do i not use the butter? Lol

    1. I need you to email me the no bake oreo recipe

  8. I love you to email me this recipe so I could print it ❤️. This is the best recipe and I want this one for my records lol.

  9. Kathy French says:

I’ve been making this for years. What I’ve discovered when I’ve shared the recipe is the people did not use the INSTANT pudding! Of course this would cause a problem.

  10. Did you skip the butter step in your video? Is that not necessary anymore?

  11. Kimberley says:

You say to use the LARGE box (5.9 oz) of instant pudding. But the large box of JELLO instant pudding I am seeing in stores are only 5.1 oz. Will 5.1 oz. be enough or should I add a small box to it? Or use 2 small boxes?

    1. Ashleigh Watson says:

I always use two small boxes instead
