Getting fit and healthy has been a top priority of mine this year. I spend a lot of time at my computer and that means I don’t move as much as I should. But this January, I decided to take my health into my own hands and get moving and eating better!
I started by moving more – even if just around the house. Taking more breaks and going up and down the stairs. Then, I moved on to my diet. I cut out almost all sugar and processed foods and eating more veggies and fruit. Big for me! I love my chocolate and anything sugary. But, little by little, my habits have changed and I don’t crave those things much anymore!
In March, my daughter signed up for Girls on the Run which ends in May with a 5k race. I’ve never been a runner but decided to do with her! So, I started walking – not that fast, but I was doing it and adding in small amounts of running! Ella and I would go a few times a week together and work on building up our endurance. Then, we started doing it as a whole family. We were all looking forward to working out, riding bikes and just being active as a family! Plus I was so happy to lose weight in the process! YAY for healthy eating and activities!
I think it’s been great! We are all moving more and getting out as family. The best thing to me is that we are laying a foundation for our kids to be healthy and fit in their lives and creating new, healthy habits! That is so important to our kids’ health! That’s why places like Wellspring Camps has decided to help out teens learn to be active, fit and healthy with their camps!
