I never thought I’d be saying this, but our home is getting closer to being a Smart Home. I always thought that having a smart home was for people with a lot of money or really tech savvy. But, it’s not! It’s really easy for you and me to both have a smart home with ease. What is a smart home, you ask? It’s a home equipped with lighting, heating, and electronic devices that can be controlled remotely by phone or computer. Now, there are kits and services that you can buy that can be controlled by apps on your phone. I honestly never thought about any of these possibilities when I was younger! I was amazed when we went from dial up phones to touch tones and from TV dials to remotes. Craziness! What’s even more crazy is that we can all make our homes smart and do so affordably! Here’s 4 Easy Ways to Make Your Home a Smart Home that is fun and affordable!
1. Smart TVs – This may be my favorite way to make your home smart. Navigate through movies, music, social media, apps, the Internet, and—last but not least—television channels, from the comfort of your living room couch. Smart TV’s voice-interaction capabilities, you don’t even have to worry when the remote goes missing. It’s pretty amazing!
2. Thermostats – The iComfort® S30 is a wireless-enabled touchscreen thermostat. It controls your entire system from the wall, like a standard thermostat, while also allowing you to monitor and adjust your temperature from anywhere in the world, using smartphone, tablet or laptop. It offers remote access, along with live weather forecast and automatic updates, offers a level of convenience that goes beyond what’s possible with a standard thermostat. Alerts and reminders can also be sent to you via email or accessed through your mobile app to tell you if there’s a problem with your system or maintenance is required and with your permission, messages can be sent to your Lennox dealer. How cool is that?!
3. Lighting – Smart lighting is a very easy first step to creating a smart home. Some smart bulbs allow you to set mood lighting for the different rooms in your house, control your lighting from your phone or tablet, and schedule them to turn on and off at pre-set times. You can even use them as an alarm, to wake you up in the morning. They even make bulbs that can play your iTunes!
4. Switches – Smart switches are basically a switch that you plug into a power socket and then plug another device’s plug into so you can control it via an app on your smartphone or tablet. You can set schedules, monitor energy usage on electronic devices and find out which devices are used most often and when. When you’re able to control your devices and how often they are used, you should be able to control your home’s power bills easily by making sure items are turned on and off only when needed.
