There are plenty of fun indoor and outdoor activities you can do with your dog that will give him lots of physical and mental stimulation which is very important for keeping fido happy and healthy! How much activity your dog needs depends on your dog’s breed, age, temperament, and health.

Dog parks.  Most are securely fenced, have safety signs posted with park rules, and require that you clean up after your dog but the fun your dog has with other dogs is priceless!

Frisbee. Dogs who love to play Frisbee, either purely for pleasure or in competition. Teach your dog to play frisbee and you’ll both have fun!

Tracking. Playing hide-and-seek with a toy or item of clothing can be a tracking challenge for your dog that he will grow to love!

Agility. In agility trials, human handlers guide dogs off lead through obstacle courses that consist of hurdles, teeter-totters, tunnels, balance beams, weave poles, climbing structures, etc

Food puzzle toys. Food puzzle toys are sturdy containers, usually made of hard rubber or plastic, that hold food or treats inside but don’t give dogs easy access to the food and give your dog lots of fun and stimulation!

Chew Time. Whether you have a puppy or an adult dog, it’s important to provide a variety of appropriate and attractive chew toys, like Nylabones® and hard rubber toys, natural marrow bones, rawhide and pig ears.

Tug-of-war. Playing tug with your dog can provide a wonderful outlet for her natural canine urges to grab and pull on things with her mouth.

Teach a New Trick.  There’s always a new trick to teach your dog. Keep his mind active with new tricks often!

Work for his Dinner. One of the easiest ways to challenge your dog’s mind is to make him work for his food. Have your dog perform some tricks before he gets his dinner, or you can even use a food dispensing toy for some extra fun!
